This is my entry for the 2010 Comica/Jonathan Cape/Observer Graphic Short Story Prize. It follows the misadventures of Jinho, a rather malodorous Korean teenager.
I lived in South Korea for the entirety of 2009, teaching English as a foreign language. When I heard about the competition, it just made sense to me to use Korea in my comic. Korea is a fascinating country with a lot of history, yet it is not so well known in England (where I hail from), where it is perhaps most famous for its people eating dogs! (Which they do, by the way, but I've seen very few restaurants selling it.)

ReplyDeleteUncomfortable reading, in a good way. You can really see and hear and smell the onions being masticated in the poor chap's insect-like maw. The pink thing works too. Funny how we both had the same sort of idea about colouring.
